Here I stand, open to the world.
My heart bursts open
Expelling my grief,
Screaming in outrage,
‘This is unfair’
As I see the body lie beneath my gaze.
He’s gone.
Silenced
Frozen
Unmoving,
Here I stand.
Here I stand, open to the world.
My heart bursts open
Expelling my grief,
Screaming in outrage,
‘This is unfair’
As I see the body lie beneath my gaze.
He’s gone.
Silenced
Frozen
Unmoving,
Here I stand.
Your eyes looked into mine, gratitude welling up in them as the question hung between us, unspoken.
Stroking the face battered by shrapnel, the angry sea and irreversible loss, I whispered, ‘My land is your home.’
You hugged me.
