From #15to50- November Fiction Challenge-#Winners

Hello everyone! I figured we should end 2014 with a slight twist, so here’s what’s changing around here for the challenge 🙂

  • There will only be TWO posts picked from here on for the badges: A Winner and a Runner-Up.
  • The Challenge entries will ALL be listed in the Winner’s Post from now on. Feel free to visit those you may have missed and comment on those that you liked/appreciated.
  • Grammar, technique, word flow will ALL be considered very carefully while selecting the winners. So make sure you are not dashing your post off in a hurry 😉

November’s Challenge saw a wonderful response with 19 entries in total. I was really impressed by the range of responses this set of prompts evoked.

The whole trick of Flash fiction and micro-fiction, in particular, is the skill of weaving an entire story into the shortest number of words possible, without compromising on content and expression. Without further ado, here are the top 2 posts, for this month!

To refresh your memory, here were the prompts:

 PROMPTS For November

Word prompt: Destiny

Phrase Prompt: ‘Jaws of Death’

Picture Prompt:

jaws of death

Providence

Inderpreet’s interpretation of all three prompts was done with a subtle nuance that compels you to re-read the piece once it’s done. The very fact that the protagonist equates the jaws of death to a warm embrace elevates the scenario from the mundane to the spiritual. Her clever play on the word ‘Why’ throughout the piece is both effective and not overworked.

Congratulations for the Runner-Up Badge, Inderpreet 🙂

If you just click across to her post and read it, you will know why Cat won this badge. In just 19 words, she weaves an entire scene which blends humour and tragedy in a fabulous way. Saying anymore would just be giving it away. Trust me, you’ll want to read this piece. Although she used only the photo prompt, she did great justice to it and deserves this badge today. Take a bow, Cathy!

Congratulations for the Winner’s Badge, Cathy 🙂
